Pt Barrow.  A collection of about 75 plants was obtained at King I., Pt Barrow and Hershel I.  They are now in the Dudley Herb.
        1897.   Sargent, Charles Sprague, director of the Arnold Arboretum, made a small collection, now in Arn. Arb., from the vicinity of the Lynn Canal and White Pass.  He was accompanied by Canby and J. Muir.
        1897.   Canby, William Marriott, accompanied SARGENT and MUIR on their trip to S.E. Alaska.  He made a small collection of plants, now in Nat. Herb., Washington.   Wrangell was visited Aug. 25, Skagway Aug. 28 and Dyea Aug. 29.
        1897-99.   Kincaid, Trevor, Professor of Zoology at the University of Washington, collected in July 1897 at Unalaska, Bjelkovsky and Karluk and in Aug. 1897 at St. Patil I.  In 1899 he took part in the Harriman Alaska Expedition and collected in July, at Metlakatla, Sitka and Glacier Bay, but especially at Popof I. Collections in Nat. Herb., Washington.  Duplicates in Univ. of Washington, in the author's herb. and many other herbaria.
        1897-98.   Evans, Walter Harrison, of the U. S. Dept. ot Agricult., collected about 600 numbers along the southern coast of Alaska, which are preserved in Nat. Herb., Washington.  The following places were visited: In 1897 June 6-10 Wrangell; June 20 Howkan; June 30 Sitka; Prince William Sd; July 15-18 Kodiak; July 17 Wood I.; Tyonek; Homer; Aug. 1 Sunrise City; Unga; Unalaska. In 1898 Sitka in June and Kusilof in July.  EVANS published his botanical observations (chiefly concerning the agriculture and edible plants) in U. S. Agricult. Dept., Yearbook 1897, in Plant World 3 (1900) and in U. S. Dept. of Agricult. Office of Exp. stations Bull. 62.
        1898-1901.   McLean, John J., of the U. S. Signal Service. collected in 1898 at Dawson and in 1898-1901 at Klondike.  Labels with the name J. MCLEAN are found on specimens collected July 15, 1899 on St. Matthew I. (Miss. Bot. Gard.) and in Sitka July 1881.  It is uncertain whether they refer to the same person.
        1898.   Hinckley, Frank Caspar, of the U. S. Geol. Survey, collected in July some few plants in the upper Kuskokwim valley.  They are preserved in Gray Herb.
        1898-1900.   Bolton, Arthur L., collected about 200 specimens of plants at upper Yukon R.  They are now in Nat. Herb., Washington.  In 1898 the following places were visited: White Pass, Summit & Middle Lakes, Dominion Creek, Fifty Mile R.  In 1899 Fifty Mile R.
